D-DAY Beaches and other famous places

Here is a collection of pictures of some of the famous places you will just HAVE to visit when you are in Normandy. This small piece of Europe is still filled with the remnants of one of the largest military operations in man’s history and when you have any knowledge of what happened there in June 1944 you will be as awed as I am….. EACH time I visit. Above is a picture of the (new) Pegasus bridge. Can you imagine that people landed with huge glider planes on that bit of green you see there !!?? They did !…

Pegasus Bridge, Normandy

Part Three of our Normandy Trip Report….. One of the things I wanted to see this time ’round was the famous Pegasus Bridge in Bénouville, captured by Major John Howard and his paratroopers. This was one of the many daring missions…. landing near the strategically important bridge, in the middle of the night with three gliders, on a piece of land that would hardly be big enough for a modern day single seater….. It is awesome reading about it, seeing the film…. but nothing beats standing on that same place and imagining how scary it must have been that one…
