Col de la Madeleine

Collected here is a small series of photos of the Col de la Madeleine. The photos were made in 2005 and 2006. Col de la Madeleine is one of the more challenging ‘cols’ (or mountain passes) with rather narrow roads on the east side. The hairpins are not too difficult, but there are quite a few places where there is hardly room for a motorbike AND a car to pass each other. The east side of the pass (we usually go UP on that side) is the steepest and narrowest, climbing up from the valley that connects Albertville with the…

Next Rides and Activities

The good news: WINTER IS OVER ! You may think “well, duh!” But really, this winter has been the longest for many decades and although I have been riding our GS in France a few times along snow lined mountain roads, and the RT here in Holland in between frost periods, last week was the FIRST time THIS YEAR that Nina and I mounted up and rode along the West-Frisian country roads again! So what’s next? Ride whenever the sun is out !! AND….. …… the RT Treffen on APRIL 21st. That’s the now yearly meeting of BMW RT’s (mainly)…

Hotel Belvédère on the Pt. Saint Bernard Pass road

On the main connection between France and Italy in the eastern Alps, connecting the French Tarantaise region with the Italian Aosta Valley, lies this wonderfully equipped, motor-friendly hotel ! As you may remember, Nina and I checked them out earlier this year to get them their Motorrad-Tourer certificate of quality. And since we check upon the ‘partners’ once in a while, I found this nice Youtube video of the restaurant and breakfast room for you ! We also noticed that the new ‘motor cover’ has been finished, so now there is even more covered parking space for our stallions! I’ve…

First Video Attempt

I am a photographer and really s**k at making video, but since this is our vacation and I happen to have a copy of Camtasia…. AND a ContourHD helmet camera, I figured I might as well upload my ‘doings’ anyway and share some of the awesome places we ride at! This first little video shows us riding through the ski resort of Méribel in the French Alps (Savoie region), down to our place in the small village of Les Allues. No need to watch it all….. I took out the sound because the camera has a fault in sound recording………

Returned from all travels

EuropeRides is one of my worst maintained sites and I apologize for that. Just not enough time in our lives to do it all…. but still trying ! We’re back from a very busy Summer and Fall. We spent time riding in France, the Alps and the Côte d’Azur this year. And we had our special adventure in the Italian Dolomites, trying to get a new rear tire and hurting the car in the process. Much stress ! But a few good rides on the awesome Dolomiti passes too….. and outside the main season again, so nice and quiet !…

In the Alps again

Yep, we’re back on our Alpine Base in the French Alps. Unfortunately it is not really riding weather, with the Galibier Pass having to be cleared of SNOW today, so the Tour de France can pass over it on Friday ! This is one FREAK Summer so far and we’re sitting here watching the rain come down. But the BMW is ready for touring, albeit down in the garage, and we’re hoping for some dryer spells in a few days. We’ll keep you updated of new tours and new places to visit. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, check our ‘Partners and Links’…
